WOW! Wild make blockbuster trade for Quinn Hughes

It's been reported by multiple outlets that the Wild made a blockbuster trade for Quinn Hughes tonight. The details of the trade being reported:

Wild Receive:

Quinn Hughes

Canucks Receive:

Zeev Buium, Marco Rossi, Liam Öhgren, 2026 1st Round Pick

My initial reaction to this trade was, wow, that is a lot to give up. I love the potential of Zeev Buium, who a lot of experts predict could become the next Quinn Hughes. It bums me out to see him go and it would stink to see him become the next superstar with a different team. I think Rossi is what he is at this point, and although I worry about our center depth, I think the writing has been on the wall for awhile that he was going to leave at some point. Ohgren has shown some flashes but has a long ways to go if he is going to reach his potential. And that first round pick hopefully will be towards the end of the first round if this trade works out. That's a lot to give up for one player.

But after some thought I am 100% on board with this trade. The Wild have been the same old Wild for quite some time now. We were stuck in cap hell for what felt like forever and craved a move like this for a long time but never had the space to make it work. It's time for this franchise to push their chips to the middle and take a swing. We've seen in the playoffs how much a superstar can change a series. Now we have one of the best defenseman in the league to pair with one of the best forwards in the league. And both are in their prime.

This trade is everything that Just Win Minnesota is about. Let's not settle for average. Let's go all-in and push for a championship. The Minnesota Wild have turned into a laughing stock with their first round exits. Time to say "enough is enough" and go for it.

And did we give up a lot? Yes. But remember when the Wolves got so much hell for what they gave up for Rudy Gobert? That turned out okay for them. I think this will too.

Also, with Hughes contract ending after next season, I love that we get to re-start the "will he re-sign or will he leave" anxiety that we went through with Kaprizov. Should be another fun summer of over analyzing everything that's said between both parties.
