Last night the Twins put out an absolute stinker against the Phillies in the annual Field of Dreams game. Outside of an early Luke Keaschall home run, there wasn’t much to cheer for or be interested in as a Twins fan. Until Matt Vasgersian hit the viewing audience with his description of the Pohlad family. A “beloved” ownership group according to the Netflix broadcast crew.
Did the Pohlad family pay Vasgersian to say this or was he fully embracing the Iowa experience by crushing 12 Busch Lattes during a sporting event? My guess is the ladder because we all know the Pohlad’s refuse to spend a dime on anything baseball related.
In my entire 25-year span of being a Twins fan, I have never heard a single fan describe the Pohlad’s as “beloved.” In fact, I don’t know if there’s been a time this ownership group has been more hated by Minnesota sports fans. From the fire sale last year at the deadline to slashing payroll by over 50 million since the Twins broke their 20+ year playoff win drought in 2023. What beloved moves will they cook up next? Trade Joe Ryan or Pablo this offseason? Let Ryan Jeffers walk? Sadly, I don’t know if this ownership group is going anywhere any time soon.
P.S – Byron Buxton might be one of my favorite Minnesota athletes of all time. This ownership group doesn’t deserve this kind of loyalty from their franchise player and one of the game’s best center fielders.
