Vikings Vibe Check Week 7: Game Preview, Bets, & Final Score Predictions

Coming out of the bye, the Vikings are in the driver’s seat going forward and we all know why. The defense & special teams are dominant. The offense overall numbers aren’t impressive, but they’ve improved every week and have owned the time of possession and don’t turn the ball over. A good formula for winning. As I mentioned in the weekly podcast and my bye week blog, the Vikings aren’t being taken as seriously as their record states they should be. That’s fine with us at Just Win MN. The longer we are the underdog in the division the better I like our chances. The Vikings start their post bye schedule with a home game vs the Colts, who could be on the verge of blowing up their entire team ahead of the trade deadline. Let’s dive in.

This week’s mood: 😎 Feeling Good

With the offense improving week over week, the Vikings are starting to give us reason to think they are more than a first-round exit playoff team. Was it against poor defense? Yes. Do we care? No. Plus the Vikings have not been healthy on offense all year. Coming into week 7 Jefferson, Murray, Addison, Hockenson, and Mason have only been on the field together for a collective 9 snaps. The Vikings are also getting Christian Darrisaw back as well giving a boost to their offensive line.

Tell me if you’ve heard this before

Brian Flores and the Vikings defense is elite. Not just because we are die hard Vikings fans drinking the kool aid. Because all the major defense categories say so. The Vikings defense ranks in the top 5 in average points allowed, third down percentage, EPA per play, turnovers, yards per game, QBR rating allowed, 4th quarter points allowed, sacks, and rushing yards per game allowed.

Brian Flores:

Around the NFC North

A quick recap of our division foes to round out the vibes…

While the Vikings are not getting much love from the national media. Caleb Williams and the Bears are currently experiencing a national suck off fest. This is the same team that is 0-2 in the division and let the Packers give them a belt to ass beatdown.

Caleb has averaged over 300 total yards, 2 TDs, and 0 turnovers in his three full starts this year

It’s almost like a certain team, and defense went into Soldier Field earlier this week and allowed 138 yards while forcing 2 turnovers vs Caleb. Maybe I imagined it or it doesn’t count.

Moving on… The Packers look to be improving after two wins in a row. With Micah Parson and Josh Jacobs coming back soon. They might be the biggest threat to the Vikings going forward. The Lions have beaten up on a softer schedule as of late. Still not 100% sure to make of this team considering how bad their defense is.

Game Notes & Overview

The State of the Vikings

  • Current Record: 5-0
  • NFC Standing: 2nd
  • Last Week’s Result: W @ New Orleans
  • Key Injuries: Donavan Jackson (Out for the year)
  • Major Storylines: The Vikings will have all their playmakers back on offense for the first time since the first drive during week 1.

About the Colts

  • Record: 2-4
  • AFC Standing: 12th
  • Last Week’s Result: L vs. Tennessee
  • Key Injuries: Sauce Gardner & TJ Warren
  • Major Storylines: The colts just fired their GM and are on the brink of having their season slip away completely. A loss to the VIkings this weekend and it’s likely we see a fire sale before the trade deadline. Cmon down Deforest Buckner and Jonathan Taylor!

Three Things That Will Decide the Game

  1. Offense doesn’t have unnecessary turnovers
  2. Stop Jonathan Taylor
  3. Pressure Daniel Jones.

I think I’ve written a different version of this the last few weeks that ultimately says the same thing. The Vikings are a better football team than the Colts and should be positioned to improve to 6-0 on the season. Jonathan Taylor is the only player that concerns me on the Colts. The rest of the offense is either banged up or simply not very good. On top of that, Daniel Jones is statistically one of the worst QBs in the NFL against pressure this year, ranking 31st out of 36 qualified QBs. This is another chance for the defense and Flores to feast, and I suspect they will.

My Biggest Concern

Jonathan Taylor. He is still one of the premier running backs in the NFL. If he has a big day this will help the Colts avoid pressure situations and long third downs. The key will be getting out to a lead early, forcing the Colts to play from behind and use their passing game to move the ball. This massively favors the Vikings.

Why the Vikings Could Win

The Defense makes another QB’s hell again allowing the Vikings offense to just control the clock, take the yards available to them, and score enough points to win.

Betting Corner

Best Bet

Pick: Kyler Murray over 1.5 touchdowns
Odds: +112 on DK

Why I like it: Murray has gotten better every week. I expect that to continue this week and its plus money.

Player Prop of the Week

Pick: Laquon Treadwell under 21.5 yards
Odds: -110

Why I like it: He’s still in the league???

Bets I’m Staying Away From

Pick: Colts +6.5

Reason: The Colts feel like they are on the verge of burning it down and starting from scratch. I think their HC has lost the locker room as well.

Predictions

Just Win MN’s Final Score Predictions

Jakeybigs: Vikings 31, Colts 17

Ben Vikings 34, Colts 6

Woody Vikings 27, Colts 16

Sean Vikings 35, Colts 21

Spread Prediction

Vikings -6.5

The Vikings are better, healthier, at home, and getting better on offense.

Bold Prediction

Deforest Buckner is traded at haltime and plays the second half for the Vikings.

Bottom Line

The Vikings are the better team and will improve to 6-0 on the season.
