The Lynx Break Their 10 Game Winning Streak And Cheryl Reeve Goes Scorched Earth Afterwards
This is one of the oldest tricks in the book if you ask me. The Lynx have been dominating the WNBA this season. Olivia Miles is only a rookie and already is in the MVP discussion. Now they have Napheesa Collier back and went on a 10 game win streak before losing to the Sparks last night at Target Center.
So naturally Cheryl Reeve blasted her team in every which way in the postgame press conference. Calling out their defense. Saying every player was terrible. This smells of a coach who thinks her team is getting a little too comfortable and needed to snap them back to reality and re-gain their focus. Cheryl Reeve has always given me Gregg Popovich vibes and this feels like something straight out of the Popovich playbook.
Even with yesterday’s loss, the Lynx are 25-7 and sit at top of the WNBA standings by 2.5 games. I’m not too worried about the Lynx. But I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to say this season is now championship or bust. And even though this is a Minnesota women’s team and we’ve mostly seen the playoff curse happen on the men’s side, it still makes me nervous to say that.
Hopefully Cheryl Reeve’s message will get through to her team and the Lynx will blow through the WNBA to their fifth(!!) WNBA championship.
